Mom's Birthday Follows the Lunar Calendar explores the cycles of life and power structures in the world through story telling with animals.

The painting features various anthropomorphic eggs and birds. The human characteristics of these creatures are both disturbing and intriguing, drawing the viewer in as they wonder whether the painting is interpreting nature or addressing their life.  A large bird dominates the painting, alluding to the power struggles we see in nature but also in the human world. The arch of moon-like eggs suggests the passing of time from birth to death and the inevitable changes this process brings. As the viewer looks closely, they can reflect on the realities of life through the filter of animals and fantasy.
